virginia, northbound 395. everything looks good across the potomac river. back to you. >> thank you. in chevy chase this morning, a police chase ended with a deadly crash of. >> at connecticut avenue and chevy chase circle. john gonzalez is there. good morning. >> good morning. two fatalities in. two people in the hospital. the people inside the car in their late teens or early 20's. connecticut avenue on the north side of chevy chase circle is closed. it will remain that way for several hours, possibly through the morning rush hour. this was a devastating car accident that happened as a high-speed police chase for around 1:00 this morning. police ran the tags of this toyota and came back as a stolen car. when the officer put on his

lights, the suspect fled. that's when the chase started. the officer called for backup and k-9 units immediately. they spent several miles through the neighborhood and down connecticut avenue. the two police cars appear to of collided into each other. two police cars crashed into each other and then the suspect 's car crashed into a large tree at the circle. for some reaso the hen he lost control. they extracted the driver and the front seat passenger. they attempted to put out the flames. were not able to do so and were not able to extract the two rear seat passengers. >> the reconstruction team has just arrived. they are cutting the car open. connecticut avenue on the north side of the chevy chase circle

charged with murder today. brianne carter has the latest developments. >> good morning. army staff sgt robert bales will be charged with 17 counts of murder, six counts of assault and six counts of attempted murder as well as other charges of in connection with the shooting spree in afghanistan earlier this month. he's accused of leaving the base and going on a shooting rampage in afghan villages killing 17, including nine children. officials changed the number of those dead to 17 on thursday, adding one more adults, with no. explanation no the motives for the alleged incidents still not known. there's been speculation that he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder. word of the charges comes at the same time we are learning new details about the soldier who was on his fourth tour of duty overseas at the time. in 2002 he was arrested for the

on the efforts to save the people in the car >> . two fatalities and two people in the hospital. we are told the people inside a stolen car o were in their late stolenr early 20's. connecticut avenue at the north side of chevy chase circle will be closed several hours possibly through the morning rush-hour. this was a devastating wreck that started as a high-speed police chase. 1:00 this morning police ran the tags of this small toyota and came back as a stolen car. the officer put on his lights and the suspect fled. the officer really called for backup and k-9 units. chase sped through the neighborhood and down connecticut avenue toward the district. two police cars crashed into each other and have extensive damage. the suspect lost control of the stolen vehicle and sprinted to a massive tree at the circle and burst into flames -- careened

into a massive tree. they tried to get the occupants out of the car. they were able to get the driver and front seat passenger out, but not the rear passengers. they died at the scene. the driver is undergoing surgery at this hour, in critical condition. somehow the front seat passengers suffered minor injuries. reporting live, john gonzalez abc 7 news. >> we will check in with him later for more details. police are searching for a man was sexually assaulting a female realtor while she was on the job. >> she was checking out an empty house on dupont avenue in suitland wednesday night when a man broke in and attacked her. he was wearing a stocking mask. police plan to have several investigators in the area today to hand out flyers. d.c. police are searching for the person who stabbed a pregnant woman, killing the unborn baby. the suspect got into the woman's home on ninth street in southeast early yesterday morning and attacked.

neighbors heard the eight-month pregnant woman crying for help. she was sleeping when the attacker somehow got inside the home. police don't believe they knew each other. the 31-year-old woman is recovering in hospital. the guardian angels are trying to help prevent attacks on gay and transgendered people in d.c. they started patrolling last night to run columbia heights metro station. have been three separate recent attacks in that area on two days men and a transgender woman. the guardian angels hope they can prevent any future crime. >> d.c. mayor vincent gray will brief the city council on a spending plan at 9:30 of the wilson building and then will talk to reporters about the budget that seeks to close a 172 mitten dollar gap between expenses and expected revenues. harry thomas jr. has now paid back for the money that he owes to the city. he has paid 70,000 of the
